Prosegue la collaborazione tra l'etichetta discografica salentina Dodicilune e il sassofonista barese Roberto Ottaviano. Dopo "Un Dio Clandestino" (2008), "Arcthetics. Soffio Primitivo" (2013), "Forgotten Matches. The Worlds of Steve Lacy" (2014), "Astrolabio" (2015), "Eternal Love" (2018) e i due dischi dell’anno per Top Jazz (referendum indetto dalla rivista Musica Jazz) "Sideralis" (2017) e "Resonance & Rhapsodies" (2020), il 31 luglio esce “Charlie’s Blue Skylight”. Nel nuovo progetto discografico, distribuito da distribuito in Italia e all’estero da IRD e nei migliori store on line da Believe Digital e prodotto nella programmazione Puglia Sounds Records 2022 della Regione Puglia (POC Puglia 2007-2013 – Azione Sviluppo di Attività Culturali e dello Spettacolo), Ottaviano incontra nuovamente il pianista inglese Alexander Hawkins rileggendo insieme undici composizioni di Charles Mingus.
«Mingus il beffardo, il bullo, l’arrogante figlio di puttana, quello avanti a tutti, il guerriero samurai con la sua dinastia da una parte e l’uomo che non dormiva mai con la borsetta piena di psicofarmaci dall’altra… Non so. Per me è sempre stata un’altra questione d’amore», scrive Roberto Ottaviano nelle note di copertina. «Eccessivo, indicibile, in grado di passare dalla seta blue alle orge ecclesiastiche con lo scatto di un giaguaro. Accendere un fuoco e bruciare in fretta tutto, Gospel, Blues, Ellington, Songs, Pitecantropi e uomini multipli come Rahsaan, allucinazioni e psicosi, e poi sedersi con la sua pipa e osservare le fiamme con la tenerezza di un bambino, con gli occhi lucidi. Non potevo che chiedere ad Alexander di condividere con me questa autoterapia d’amore attraverso la luce blue del cielo di Charlie».

In the beginning he often boasted that he was someone who never fell. Even when I hardly knew him, he would occasionally repeat that phrase in a meaningful way. "I never fall, you know?" while walking down the street or going to the dressing room. He was not referring to his talent as a composer or bass player - he never bragged about this - but to something obscure and non-existent he had in his head.
Mingus the mocker, the bully, the arrogant son of a bitch, the one ahead of everyone, the samurai warrior with his dynasty on one side and the man who never sleeps with a purse full of psychotropic drugs on the other... I do not know. For me it has always been another question of love. Excessive, unspeakable, able to go from blue silk to ecclesiastical orgies with the snap of a jaguar. Light a fire and quickly burn everything, Gospel, Blues, Ellington, Songs, Pythecanthropes and multiple men like Rahsaan, hallucinations and psychosis, and then sit with his pipe and watch the flames with the tenderness of a child, with shining eyes . I could only ask Alexander Hawkins the great to share this self-therapy of love with me through the Charlie’s Blue Skylight.
